Key Achievements

The Purpose Project was selected by O, The Oprah Magazine and The White House Project (a non-partisan group) from over 3000 applicants as one of 80 “ideas that could change the world.”

Since our launch, we have made significant progress towards many of our goals. We have begun gathering and sharing the stories of accomplished social leaders, including the founders of Simsbury-based Plowshares Institute, Bob and Alice Evans, Pan-Massachusetts Challenge founder, Billy Starr, and founder of the Student Conservation Association, Elizabeth Titus Putnam. We have also secured commitments of participation from Wellspring House founder, Nancy Schwoyer, and began interviews with Nobel Laureate, Desmond Tutu, this month. As the project moves forward, we are continuing to engage other partner changemakers from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, geographic locations, areas of expertise, and levels of notoriety. Some of our stories and articles have been published in The Huffington Post, and media appearances about The Purpose Project have been featured in The Hartford Courant, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Connecticut CBS affiliate WFSB.

We have also built a number of important collaborative partnerships over the past year. We’re working with The Connecticut YOUTH Forum, the University of Connecticut, and one of this year’s QUEST teams from Leadership Greater Hartford to develop models for intergenerational dialogue with high school and university students and young professionals from across the state. Each of these partnerships assists us in addressing the needs of our local Connecticut community, while simultaneously creating pilot models that The Purpose Project will be able to share with others and replicate on a national scale in the future.
